Your time might be the most valuable thing you can contribute to our project. We are looking for volunteers from different fields of expertise to work here in Jenin. If you are not based in Palestine and cannot travel here it doesn’t mean you cannot help: support in your country of residence might be needed as well!
If you would like to join our team, please send us an application including a current CV in English. If applicable, please also specify the period of time (at least three months), for which you would like to stay in Jenin.
We can offer all our volunteers in Jenin free accommodation and food in our beautiful guest house, Arabic language courses, exiting team events in the whole west bank, reduced air fares with our generous sponsor Air Berlin, a special international working atmosphere and a certificate of completion for the internship. Beyond that you will get in contact with hospitable and open minded locals who introduce you to Arabic culture.
The Following is a list of skills that we are currently looking for, to make our project a sustainable success. However, this list is far from exclusive, so please feel free to send us your CV and your ideas, to make Cinema Jenin a better place.
WHO WE NEED THE MOST:
Cinematographers and Film students
We are looking for cutters, camera wielders and start-up movie directors. Contribute your ideas and take this opportunity to build up filmmaking capacities in Jenin. Experienced filmmakers are invited to contribute their knowledge in workshops for the young Jenin film scene.
Bilingual Arab speakers
If you are a native Arabic speaker and fluent in another language, preferably English or German, we would be happy if you join our project - to help us with the translation of movies and communications. Beyond that we are especially searching for a truly bilingual, native Arab speaker, who can support us to translate our homepage!
Build a lasting Relationship with Refugee Children
Ismael Khatib's Cuneo Center for Peace offers social space for the kids living in Jenin refugee camp. We are looking for someone to offer them their trust and organize creative and/or social activities. Important is that you are ready to offer a reliable relationship to the kids. To ensure that, it is necessary to stay in Jenin for a longer period of time, at least 10 months.
Electrical Engineering | Technician
Cinema Jenin needs professional electronic furnishing. We would be glad if you could join us at our project. The tasks awaiting technical experts will be very demanding since the cinema needs to be networked with different infrastructures such as a huge LED-screen, sound studios and the like.
Financial Advisor
The project needs to professionalize its financial management. Hence, we are searching for accounting and finance professionals who support us in managing our incomes and outcomes and develop long term financial planning. Experts in auditing are especially welcome.
Fundraising and Donor Relations
We are looking for worldwide networkers and advocates to help us generate awareness of our project in your community and find good people and organizations interested in supporting us. Organize a fundraising dinner, write to institutions or just motivate people around you to financially support the project. Knowledge of how to draft good proposals and applications for long-term-funding are an asset.
IT Professionals
We are urgently looking for IT experts, who are fluent in English and able to stay with us for a longer period of time. Two important fields of work, in which your technical know-how is needed, are database and website management. The overall work situation will be extremely challenging since a fully-fledged IT-infrastructure is still lacking.
Let there be Light
To complete our existing team, we need lighting engineers and technicians to help us set up the Cinema lighting, but especially for knowledge transfer: Our goal is to qualify local technicians to run and maintain the lights system independently as soon as possible.
Public Relations
To create awareness of our project and to improve the communicational structures, a public relation expert, who will stay here for a longer period of time, is still needed. There are some important events coming soon, in which you can inset your expertise, for example the European Film Festival in may and the cinema opening event in august.
Soundmasters
We need an expert sound master to set up the Cinema sound system and to help qualify locals to be able to manage and maintain the important sound system when the cinema will be running. Furthermore, we will begin to build up our subtitling and synchronization studios, starting this summer. Knowledge transfer, the further qualification of local staff for these tasks is an essential component of this part of our project.
