Mockumentaries

Mockumentary is a film that uses only the techniques and aesthetics of a documentary, but is actually pure fiction. It is a stylization, mystification and often a parody of documentary clichés.

In the horror film “Blair Witch”, the effect of documentary shooting instills horror. The idea of Taika Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows is already crazy (a kind of sitcom about the everyday life of vampires), and the invisible presence of the film crew takes it to the point of absurdity.

Mockumentaries in advertising are a format in which any fantasy can be realized. Like any parody, the mockumentary entertains. But not only. With its help, you can invent important stories, situations and conversations that never happened – and show everything as if they did.

Using the mockumentary format, you can:

GIVE EVERYONE A VOICE. During the lockdown, the directors of the Chief production studio shot the video Bat Sh*t, in which bats, rats and rabbits talk about the difficult life among people.

In an ironic parodic form, a strong message is packed here: humanity urgently needs to change the methods of interaction with nature. Because the thoughtless consumption and destruction of the natural environment of animals led to the COVID epidemic, not innocent bats at all.

SHOW A DIFFERENT REALITY. There are episodes in history that could become a chronicle – only filmmaking was invented too late. They can be recreated, for example, with the help of an animated mockumentary.

In the animated video Invention Of Together, the Buck studio showed the romantic suffering of humanity from the beginning of time to the present day. Medieval conventions, political schemes, religious superstitions — these have hindered lovers for hundreds of years.
