Venice: The whole story

Venice: The whole story

The two-part documentary The Story of Venice tells the full story of the city, from its founding to the present day. How people at first just hid in the marshes in the lagoon, and then from this village emerged one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. How Venice ceased to be part of the Byzantine Empire and gained independence.

This movie is one of the most extensive and expensive reconstructions of the past. And one of the rare opportunities to see the sights, not jostling with other tourists, not looking out from behind, and in the front rows.

Series 1 – “City on the Sea”. 2 – “Saving Venice.” Salvation from tourist cruise ships, from the large-scale tides. The movie has many interviews with historians, public figures, shows many beautiful places.

The controversial impact of large cruise ships, global climate change and other threats to the Venice Lagoon are covered in depth, as well as the development of a €7 billion project to create a massive underwater barrier that rises from the sea when high tides threaten to flood the ancient city. With extensive interviews with activists, engineers, architects, historians and philanthropists who know the best of Venice and are working to preserve it, we will present the backstory of the story of how Venice was built and the extraordinary efforts needed to save it from disappearing beneath the sea.
